Rezeption von Wahrheit in den Medien
This article investigates the complex topic of the perception of truth in the media from the perspective of possible openings for errors and misrepresentations in the media. How do the media perceive truth and how do they present it? After positioning the social sciences within the constructivist debate the main body of the article investigates which factors influence what becomes news: the structures within the media, the behavior of recipients and journalists (as individuals and as a profession). The article argues that the complex process of deciding what becomes news is littered with traps which can cause unrealistic and inadequate reporting. A more thorough application of the principle of falsification in journalism is seen as a step towards improving the quality of reporting.
