Wer verdient Fürsorge? Gesundheitsreform und die Werte, die unsere Gesundheitssysteme formen
A crisis of care is being experienced throughout the world, but nowhere as sharply as in the area of health care. This crisis will only worsen if we think that these are simply problems involving »fixing the system« or questions of financing it. Warren T. Reich argues that we misunderstand what is at stake if we try to revise our health care systems without paying close attention to the values that shaped our health systems, foremost the values of »care«. Taking a look at the U.S. health care system, it becomes obvious that for-profit organizations make the system neither more efficient nor more effective. It would be a great mistake, as Reich states, if Europe hands over its health care systems to profit-seeking firms because this would cause a loss of care in health care.
