As to the question whether financial incentives to encourage tissue and organ donation or even the trade in organs and tissues are an appropriate means by which the gap between supply and demand for organs can be closed, proponents and opponents tend to argue on very different levels. Yet a prior question must be answered first: Is a person the owner of his/her body? If the answer is no, a person has no right to sell parts of his/her body. Four possible answers will be introduced and analysed with respect to their cogency. Finally, I address the question whether on the assumption that a person has at least the partial property rights to his/her body trading in organs is morally justified.
