Verändert die Gentechnik das ethische Selbstverständnis des Menschen? Moraltheologische Überlegungen zu einer These von Jürgen Habermas
Juergen Habermas assumes that through the application of genetic engineering techniques on human beings the way people understand themselves as moral agents will change in such a way that it is no longer characterized by the mutual acknowledgement of freedom. Even considering the enhanced therapeutic possibilities, he questions whether such change is desirable. This article presents Habermas argument and discusses several objections. It turns out that the argument can only be made consistent if persons are presumed to be persistent entities. This yields a specifically theological interpretation of Juergen Habermas thesis.
