Stellenwert der Medizin- und Unternehmensethik im Leitbild eines Krankenhauses
Many institutions and companies state the philosophy and rules of conduct for their employees in the form of guiding principles. These days this also applies to many hospitals run by different organisations or funding bodies. As charitable institutions and as service providers hospitals primarily deal with people who are sick and suffering. This creates a web of moral requirements. On one hand, widely accepted principles of medical and corporate ethics are available as a basis for all professions to determine how to act ethically. On the other hand, it is not enough for a hospital to include specific ethical requirements in its guiding principles; rather they should be clearly defined and detailed for concrete situations, and their implementation in the daily hospital routine should be promoted. As a rule, however, such guiding principles are not restricted to medical or corporate ethics but incorporate specific aspects of a weltanschauung depending on the organisation that runs the hospital. Very often these concepts have developed from the tradition of the individual hospital and include religious, humanitarian, social or even political elements. For hospital employees having to apply the guiding principles in their daily work conflicts may arise from such overarching concepts. In these situations a culture of understanding is needed which can explicate the validity and limits of the guidelines and provide the basis for joint action.
