Gefährliche Körperverletzung im Namen der Religion? Kernfragen in der Beschneidungsdebatte aus ethischer Sicht
The controversial debate about the lawfulness of circumcisions of boys, which are not medically indicated, includes overlapping considerations of a legal and ethical nature. There are three main questions which extract from the debate: the fundamental right of physical integrity, the scope of parental responsibility and the understanding of religious freedom. This article concludes that from an ethical perspective there are no compelling objections against male circumcision for religious or other reasons (such as culture, society or hygiene). However, it is apparent from the debate about circumcision, how much notions of personhood accompany and determine the moral and as well as the legal judgment.
