Ethische Überlegungen zur Pflege hirntoter Patienten
Nursing as an ethical practice for the good of the patient is put into question by current German understandings of brain death that discursively shift the understanding of a dying patient into an already dead one. Nurses experiences of caring practices with regard to patients whose brain is diagnosed to be dead are not compatible with current debates about how to understand brain death and organ donation. There are societal normative ascriptions how nursing should function for patients who are diagnosed to be brain dead that do not find consensus with how nurses understand their ethical practice. This article is putting the ethical perspective of nursing practice into focus and identifies as well as discusses the multiple dilemmas.
