Internet-informierte Patienten Empirische Evidenz für einseitige Informationsverarbeitung und ihre medizinethischen Implikationen
The internet provides laymen with convenient access to medical information. Patients do not need to consult health professionals and their writings but can inform themselves online. This contribution summarizes empirical research on patients internet search and the implications thereof on the doctor-patient relationship. Taken together, patients process medical online information in an unbalanced way. However, they gain self-esteem when searching information online, and claim later more autonomy in the interaction with their doctor. The ethical implications of these findings are discussed.
