Schmerztherapeutische Konzepte und ihre möglichen Folgen
In the following article, pain-therapeutic approaches are discussed in regard of their consequences on patients. The overemphasis of functional management within the framework of current concepts may often have as a consequence that the patient is pathologised, the relationship to himself and to his therapist is at risk. Loneliness is strengthened, acceptance of pain is complicated. Much more relief could bring an attitude, after which pain is recognized as a part of life, which can be controlled only in a restricted way. Such an understanding of pain protects the patient from being pathologised and relieves him from challenging demands on his and therapeutic possibilities. Self-esteem persists, the therapeutic relationship remains supportive. Loneliness is alleviated, acceptance of the uncontrollable is made easier.
