On any number of occasions the hospital is unable to cope with the treatment of patients with the secondary diagnosis dementia. Deficient medical care and a caregiving disregarding the still possible self-determination are the consequences. The promotion of structures in the hospital sensitive for dementia are described by the experiences with the development of a guideline for ensuring the self-determination of patients with dementia in the hospital.
